The American All Star Competition heads to Louisiana with the Mardi Gras Classic Dance / Auxiliary Regional
Competition

Saturday, March 2, 2013
Chalmette High School
in Chalmette, Louisiana

Registration closed Feb. 15 and there were team registrations, individual registrations, duets and ensembles.  The routines are 2 1/2 minutes or less.  Footwear is non-marking dance or jazz shoes and a music CD must be presented at check-in along with a backup CD.

High School Dance Teams will compete in the following categories: High Kick, Jazz, Prop/Novelty, Pom Pon, and Hip Hop.

Junior High and Middle School Dance Teams will compete in the following categories: High Kick, Jazz, Prop/Novelty, Pom Pon, and Hip Hop.

College Dance Teams will compete in the following categories: High Kick, Jazz, Prop/Novelty, Pom Pon, and Hip Hop.

For the hip hop dance routine at this competition, it is defined as a Hip Hop routine that is made up of a variety of street dance styles, abstract movements, and body isolations such as pop and lock, hitting, jamming and funk techniques. Hip Hop routines could combine fast, tight, upbeat movements with style, control, rhythm, and uniformity.   They don’t allow props, just the hip hop dancer and the stage.

Good luck to all the dancers at the Louisiana competition!
