New York City NYC Dance Week is an annual event offering 100 free and discounted dance and fitness lessons from June 21 – June 30, 2012.
Studios around Manhattan will be offering samples of dance classes including: The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory; The Ailey Extension; Fit and Fab Studios; Kinespirit; Nika Ballet Studio; Astoria Fine Arts Dance; Bridge for Dance; Brooklyn Ballet; Dance Manhattan; Dance New Amsterdam; Dancewave; Danza Niwa; Dardo Galleto Studios; Dhoonya Dance, Marie-Christine Giordano Dance Company; Peridance Capezio Center; Sandra Cameron Dance Center; SmartWorkout; STREB Lab for Action Mechanics; Dardo Galletto Studios; and TDH Cultural Arts Center.
The slogan of the event is: Celebrating the Joy of Dance and Movement in the Five Boroughs of New York.
For example, The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory in New York founded by Safi A. Thomas offers classes open to dancers of all skill levels. You can learn popping, locking, boogaloo, breaking, rocking and even party dances. Classes meet on Fridays for work on both your hip-hop freestyle and choreography.
At the event there are also going to be performances by the Silva Dance Company, Roots In Revolution, Benjamin Briones Ballet, Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company, Breaking Through, Sy Parrish, Boston Community Dance Project, Opus Dance Theatre Company Inc., Sacred Space Dance, and The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory.
