The Olympics of Hip Hop Dance

The Olympics of Hip Hop Dance is July 29-Aug.5 in Las Vegas.

Hip hop dance crew performersHoward Schwartz, the co-creator of ABDC talks about the upcoming Las Vegas competition. (World Hip Hop Dance Championship).

Howard says it seems to be family among hip hop dancers, especially in the Filipino community.

L.A. is the center point in the world for hip hop dance.  ABDC pioneered t.v. interest in hip hop dance.  Howard previously did Aerobic Gymnastics.  As he was travelling he saw hip hop and street dancing all over the world, so he took it from the streets to the television. Electrolites won the last season of ABDC but now the Olympics of hip hop dance is now being readied.

Everyone that comes to this event of the 43 countries, the national championships from each country then sends their best for the world competition.   Athletics, an ear for music and putting all the moves together for street dancing has created this movement.  Dancers are driven by their passion.

The one week long event Aug 1-5, 2012 in Las Vegas starts with the U.S. championships. Then on Wednesday, the world crews start working and performing. Sunday night, Aug. 5 will be the finale.  150 crews from 43 countries will be battling it out. First they pare it down to the final 12, then one crew becomes the champ.

No voting takes place at this event, but judges from all over the world will come to vote.  Judges must pass an exam first to participate.

Music, dancing and high energy will punctuate the event.  Is a world tour on tap for future events?
