High School Dance Teams Compete Across the Country
Dancing on a school dance team is becoming more and more popular in the United States and also around the world. High school dance teams will already expect dancers to be at a competitive level. So it is good to begin hip hop dance lessons as early as possible.
High school dance teams hold auditions to see who is qualified to be on the team. These tryouts can be nerve-wracking but for dancers with a solid foundation of dance, they can also be quite fun. Dance teams usually put out an application packet and give the audition dates with mandatory attendance times. Dancers will be told what to wear such as black leaotard and tights along with jazz shoes or even canvas sneakers. Note that jewelry is usually not permitted at all including piercings.
At dance tryouts, the judges will be looking for attitude, motivation, enthusiasm but also skill level and discipline and how you connect with our audience. Being comfortable with the moves ahead of time will help you focus more on coming across naturally and selling your performance.
You usually only have a couple of minutes to show your stuff at an audition. Working backwards, you should be practicing regularly and working backwards even more, you should take a great basic hip hop dance course to get you started in the right direction and help you develop the confidence you need to be part of a team or crew.
